Health Outreaches
In pursuance of the vision of total inclusiveness, HELSI was at the Lord’s Heritage Orphanage Home, Ede, Osun State on a medical outreach program in commemoration of Good Deeds Day, 2022, celebrated April 16 every year. On this day, people of different races, colours and tribes across the globe participate in doing good. 50 children and caregivers were reached out to by HELSI on this day with various screenings such as Malaria RDT, genotype and blood group screenings, HIV/AIDs and Hepatits B etc.
On the 25th of April (World Malaria Day), HELSI, in collaborations with the Osun State Health Board and Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun state, organized medical outreach to the Ido-Osun Community at Aje Market, Ido-Osun, Osun State. A total of one hundred (100) persons comprising market men and women, youth and children, as well as PLWD were in attendance. They were screened for the malaria parasite using the Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) kit. Anti-malaria drugs were prescribed and some persons were referred to the hospital accordingly.
On the 19th of June (World Sickle Cell Day), HELSI carried out genotype screening for one hundred (100) participants. The event which took place at Ayegbaju International Market, Osogbo, Osun State had children, youth, and PLWDs in attendance. This was done in order to give informed knowledge about the Sickle Cell Disorder and to guide against marriages between persons with incompatible genotypes.
HELSI went round religious organizations to conduct sickle cell sensitizations. CPEC church with 150 of its members hosted HELSI in a sickle cell awareness program. This had in attendance children, teenagers, parents and caregivers.
8th October, World Sight Day, had HELSI carrying out sensitizations on the importance of eye care. Lectures were given on the importance of keeping a good eyesight even at a young age and avoiding things that can damage the sight.
The 1st of December is marked as the World Aids Day, this is a day set aside to create awareness about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and also unite to show support for people living with HIV (PLHIVs). HELSI, in collaboration with Joint National Association of persons living with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Osun State Chapter, carried out a free HIV/AIDS sensitization and screening for PLWDs. The program took place at JONAPWD Secretariat, Kelebe, Osogbo, Osun State.
Also, in the spirit of Christmas and the festive season, food items, clothing and other materials were donated to People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) of Irepodun street, Osogbo, Osun state.
