HELSI Partners with Albinism Association of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter, to Commemorate International Albinism Awareness Day 2025

HELSI Partners with Albinism Association of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter, to Commemorate International Albinism Awareness Day 2025“Demanding our rights; protect our skin, preserve our lives” — This was the bold and timely theme of the 2025 International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD), and at HELSI, we were honored to stand in solidarity with the Albinism Association of Nigeria (AAN), Osun State Chapter, to mark this important occasion. On June 21, 2025, HELSI joined forces with AAN Osun to celebrate IAAD through advocacy, awareness, and action. Together, we amplified the call for equal rights, access to healthcare, and protection for persons with albinism — a community that continues to face systemic barriers and health vulnerabilities in Nigeria and across the globe.A Commitment to Health EquityAt the heart of our partnership was a free medical outreach aimed at addressing the immediate health needs of individuals with albinism. Our dedicated healthcare team conducted:• Malaria testing for albino children• Hepatitis screening, blood pressure monitoring, and blood sugar checks for adults — providing early detection and education on the prevention of chronic illnesses. The outreach was well-attended and deeply impactful, highlighting the need for continued support, regular health monitoring, and education within the albinism community. Why It MattersPeople with albinism often face stigmatization, limited access to skin protection, vision support, and healthcare services. The 2025 theme is not just a slogan — it is a declaration of humanity and dignity. At HELSI, we recognize that advocating for equitable health means reaching underserved and marginalized groups with the care and attention they deserve. This partnership underscores our commitment to inclusive healthcare and community-led solutions.Moving ForwardWe thank the Albinism Association of Nigeria (Osun Chapter) for their leadership and dedication and for counting our Founding Director ,Bukola Olubisi Ejiade worthy of an award alongside other noble impact changers. HELSI will continue to build strategic partnerships that prioritize health equity, amplify marginalized voices, and ensure no one is left behind.
