Education
- As an organization, our activities include helping out-of-school children settle back in school through payment of school fees and donation of basic educational resource materials and back-to-school materials such as sandals, socks and school bags; especially for vulnerable children.
- Education for Justice (E4J), an initiative under the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) that seeks to prevent crime and promote a culture of lawfulness through education activities. The activities under E4J are designed for primary and secondary school students to teach them to better understand and address problems that can undermine the rule of law and encourage students to actively engage in their communities. This program was carried out in selected secondary and primary schools including school with special needs, Osun State. Students were sensitized on the effect of “Cultism and Drug Abuse”. E4J Champions were inaugurated in each school visited with ten students each becoming co-coordinators. They were saddled with the responsibilities of teaching and training others on reading culture, morality, Godliness while shunning vices like cultism and drug abuse.
- Visual Arts Competition: This is an annual competition that started in 2020 and the year 2022 was not an exception. This competition was organized in commemoration of the Children’s Day celebration on 27th May, 2022. The theme of the year’s competition was “My Culture, My Heritage”. It was organized for public and private secondary schools in Osogbo, Olorunda and Egbedore LGAs. Pupils were made to exhibit their artistic skills through cultural dances, games and drawings depict “cultural values”. At the end of the competition, Ataoja Grammar School took 1st position.
- July had HELSI going round selected schools in Osogbo local government area of Osun state carrying out a survey on post-Covid influence on Education.
- October 5th is celebrated as World Teachers Day: As learners are to learning, teachers are to teaching, teachers’ role cannot be overemphasized, hence the reason to celebrate them every year. To commemorate World Teachers Day, HELSI celebrated distinguished teachers as a way of appreciating them on HELSI HALF HOUR at OrisunAyo RadioTelevision in Osogbo, an Online Radio/Tv Station, in order to highlight the roles of teachers.
